Deux choses me remplissent le cœur d’une admiration et d’une vénération, toujours nouvelles, toujours croissantes, à mesure que la réflexion s’y attache et s’y applique : le ciel étoilé au-dessus de moi et la loi morale en moi. Ainsi s’exprimait Emmanuel Kant, le philosophe allemand du XVIIIe siècle. Il était émerveillé par l’univers infini et étoilé mais aussi par la conscience morale qu’il constatait chez tous les êtres humains. Conscience morale, qu’est-ce que c’est exactement ? Tous les êtres vivants ont-ils vraiment une conscience ? À quoi sert-elle ? Et, peut-elle être déréglée ?
