Prayer of Forgiveness

Is resentment souring your life? Is your heart shriveling from bitterness? Is unforgiveness weighing you down like a load on your back? Unforgiveness makes our lives heavier, darker, harder, and joyless. But there’s a way out. And it doesn’t involve pretending nothing happened. We’re walking through the Lord’s Prayer, journeying line by line. In this episode, we pause on “Forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors.” What did Jesus mean when He said this? What does it mean for us today?

Forgiving someone who has wronged you can feel hard…even wrong. How can you forgive someone who isn’t sorry? How can you forget what was done to you?

Perhaps you’re on the other side. You long for forgiveness. But it’s refused you. What hope do you have?

Forgiveness is different from what you think. It doesn’t make you a doormat. It doesn’t pretend that nothing happened. It’s accountability and freedom. How?

Jesus taught powerful lessons about forgiveness in His Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

We’re working our way through the Lord’s Prayer, going line by line. We’re uncovering the truth in each line, truth that can radically change our lives.

In this episode, we explore Jesus’ understanding of forgiveness. “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” What does this line mean for us today? Join us to find out!
