Christmas Special
How did the birth of baby Jesus affect the way I view suffering? There is often so much hurt and sorrow associated with this time of year. In today’s Christmas special, we will unwrap the gift of redemptive suffering.
It was twenty-seven Christmases ago: Brett Younger was the new pastor of a Baptist church in Indiana. It was Brett’s second Christmas as pastor of Central Baptist Church when he received a phone call from the county hospital on December 23. The night before, an unwed teenager had given birth to a stillborn baby. The social worker wanted him to lead a graveside service the next morning. She explained that they would normally have the service a day later, but she “didn’t want the girl to associate this experience with Christmas.”
